I’m so happy to report that middle school kids at Cannon School have good manners!
Recently, one hundred children took a “Good Manners” survey to see what they know about table manners, proper introductions, electronic etiquette, etc. The results were very interesting and encouraging!
It was “Kindness” week at Cannon School in Charlotte, NC and they were learning about how they can show kindness and good manners towards peers and adults.
To show kindness some things they said they could do are:
To adults:
- Help them out around the house
- Use terms of respect like ma’am and sir
- Open the door for them
- Don’t talk back and listen the first time
- Show interest in them – make conversation and ask questions.
To kids:
- When using electronic communication be careful of others feelings. It’s both about what you write and post, but also about who you don’t include and leave out
- Don’t bully, tease or gossip about others
- Be nice and helpful
- Show that you care by listening and paying attention to what they say
- Be encouraging and happy for them when they do something well
